About Judo
Judo is a form of wrestling that involves throws, pins, and joint locks, both from a standing position and on the ground. Simply put, it allows someone to gain an advantage over their opponent by using the natural levers of the body—both on the tatami (mats) where training and competitions take place, and in self-defense situations.
Despite its spectacular techniques, Judo can be one of the safest sports, and its comprehensive training theory and practice make it an ideal form of exercise even for children.
Although its modern form places more emphasis on its competitive aspect, “classical” Judo also includes training against both unarmed and armed attacks.
Judo is truly an art/sport for everyone. It is the safest contact martial art. Younger individuals can channel all their energy into it, while older practitioners can see it as a form of physical “chess” with ample opportunities for strategy and development.
At the Myrmidones Judo Club, we place great emphasis on traditional practice rather than competitive training, so that our lessons can reach and benefit as many people as possible. We also offer a Judo program specifically for children.
Judo, the “gentle way,” is considered the most suitable form of exercise for young ages, as studies have shown that its techniques align closely with children's psychology. Completely safe, it helps enhance concentration, self-confidence, and discipline—essential tools for the growth and well-being of a modern individual.
